Speaker warns against establishment of US bases in northern Raqqa

Tehran, Jan 17, IRNA – Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has warned against setting up of US bases in northern Raqqa, calling on countries, particularly Syria to remain vigilant as the Americans are pursuing adventurism.

After the end of the 13th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states (PUIC), he told reporters that since Iran-Russia-Turkey coalition against Daesh dealt a strong blow to the terrorist group, the Americans beefed up their presence in the region.

They did so to prevent annihilation of terrorism in the region, he said, noting that reports indicate that they have sent many consignments to Syria.

“Their presence in Syria can be a dangerous plot but they are unlikely to do something important except doing vexing jobs,” he said.

The issue of terrorism is not confined to the region; rather terrorists have been scattered from North Africa to Central Asia, Larijani said.

Although Daesh has sustained a heavy set-back, it is still present in the region because Daesh is a thought but it seems that today Islamic states have come to their senses, the top legislator said.

Elsewhere in his speech, he said that active presence of the Islamic states in the 13th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states (PUIC) revealed that Iran enjoys remarkable capacities.

The event also provided a good opportunity for dialogue among different Islamic countries, Larijani said, noting that the conference was a good chance for parliamentary interactions.

During the meeting, all the participating countries rebuked the US’ policies, as their harsh tone revealed that they do not accept US’ behavior, he said.
